Wildlife Explorers prepared for Birdwatch - March 2008

On 25th January, Kemnay RSPB Wildlife Explorers enjoyed an evening of activities and games centred on the annual Big Garden Birdwatch, which took place that week-end. We looked at slides showing birds likely to be seen in gardens in winter, and talked about how to tell which was which. Then, we learned how to adjust binoculars correctly, and practised using them to identify birds in small photographs at the far end of the room. There were prizes for those who got them all correct! Everyone took home a Big Garden Birdwatch 2008 leaflet, and so we were all ready to make our contributions to this important scientific study of winter birds.

Linedancing Classes

I am interested in starting up a Line Dancing class in the area. It would be 1-2 hours during the day, probably Tuesday or Friday.  I have 8 years experience and taught classes in Texas for 4 years prior to my return to Aberdeenshire last year. The class can be adapted for all levels of experience from absolute beginners to intermediate/advanced, depending on responses. If you think you might be interested please email me at lappinsm@earthlink.net.

Thanks

Sarah

News - October 2006

The RSPB Wildlife Explorers Group enjoyed a very successful visit to Montrose Basin in September. The Scottish Wildlife Trust ranger led our young members out on to the tidal mud below the visitor centre, and showed them the creatures that live there, normally unseen. One small crab was apparently a bit "crabby" at being disturbed, and gave one of the children a none-too-friendly nip. No harm was done, but such a new experience was clearly very exciting for a young person!

Back in the visitor centre and we had time to look at the centre's varied and interactive displays. The recently refurbished Montrose Basin wildlife has improved exhibits to make it even more worth visiting. The telescopes with splendid views of the Basin's population of birds remain the main attraction. On this occasion, a party of grey seals resting on a mud bank added to the interest for our Group.

Summer 2006 News

Voice From The Café

This has been a very busy summer for the café members.

 Summer Project

The project has included trips to Stonehaven pool and beach. Tubing at Alford and a day trip to Landmark. Lots of fun was had by all. The weather was fantastic. We also had an art project in the café. The young people have created amazing pieces of art which are now proudly on display in the café.

We were lucky enough to have the café open for five weeks of the holidays.

 Volunteer Group

Some of our members have been busy helping at Fetternear Estate supported by youth workers.

August 2006 News

Kemnay 2000

Hope you've all enjoyed the summer break, can't believe it's nearly over.

Just a wee reminder to everyone that the club is holding an open day next week, Sunday the 27th, from 11am-1pm, at the park. It gives everyone the chance to come down and enrol for the coming year. It is also a chance to pay the fees, this year it has been set at £25.00.

On the day there will be football matches going on for the kids, and adults if they want! Hopefully the guys from the cricket and tennis clubs will set something up as well.
I'd appreciate it if you could try to come along as I'm trying to size up tracksuits for the boys. I have a couple of sample sizes, but as you can imagine, it's pretty difficult with the different heights of the boys, so if you're there, the kids could try them on and give me an idea of what we need to order.

Kemnay Bowling Club

Welcome to Kemnay Social and Bowling Club.

We are situated on the south side of the village next to Bogbeth Park and right next door to the tennis court and club. We have our own Clubhouse, completed in the early nineties, which has a licensed bar and function room to hold about one hundred and twenty. The old Clubhouse still stands but now accommodates the Tennis Club
