Open letter to the Swing Flick Champions!

It's cool isn't it? on a Saturday/Sunday night when you've nothing else to do you might decide to show off your latest talent!

That'll be the one that means you know just the right flick of the wrist to get the swing to tip over the bar? So you do it not once but 5 or 6 times to show you can.. rendering the swing, for it's intended purpose, useless.

Well it's really really cool.. honestly it is! I've always been impressed by anyone who can do it, I can't and I did try - and I was particularly impressed by the person who managed to get the "baby swing" over, cos it's heavy!

I remember it as part of our growing up process too.. however I do remember being taught respect for others at the same time, so after showing off (or trying to in my case) to the "mates" we would put them back so our, or our pals, kid brothers and sisters could enjoy the same memories of playing on the same swings, the memories that we all have inside of us.

If you're a teenager now it could be anything between 1-10 years before you'll be the one having to climb up and sort them because your child/niece/nephew/godchild/sister/brother wants to play. Let me let you into a wee secret - the parents who are sorting out the swings today are the ones who are only a few years years older than you (not ancient) and they're really really unimpressed!

You wonder why there's nothing for you to do today, when you show such disrespect as to spoil what was there for you when you were younger, and not only that you take it away from the innocent young children who just want to enjoy it today.. don't tar them with your brush, please let them decide for themselves what they enjoy

What's that you say? you don't care because what else is there for you to do..

Oh my mistake - I thought perhaps you were unselfish, obviously I'm wrong!

Come back to me when you've got kids (nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters count) and have got your own grievance over facilities not being there for them. Then before you ask me, ask yourself, why it's gone!
