10,000 Congratulations
Primary School Pupils win National Speaking Event:
Kemnay Primary School pupils have won £10,000 for their school by debating the problem of youth crime at a national public speaking competition.
Four P7 pupils from the school - Liam Reid, Eilidh MacLachlan, Marc Wallace and Chloe Coutts, - beat off competition from four other schools to claim the prize before the Princess Royal and Lord Advocate Elish Angiolini at a ceremony in Edinburgh last Thursday.
Kemnay head teacher Anne Laing said the pupils who spoke, Liam and Eilidh, assisted by Marc and Chloe who presented an excellent PowerPoint presentation, decided to focus on problems close to home.
She said: "I think they won because of their message, which was they could do a lot more themselves. The other teams concentrated on what the police or government could do."
The line that really impressed the judges:
We are the young people who can solve our problems
was then reinforced in the last line of their creative and innovative RAP message as they sang:
Kemnay's future is up to me,
Mrs Laing said she was "very proud" of her students, who will help decide how to spend the prize money.
Eilidh said the whole class helped with the presentation and they were surprised but pleased to have won.
Charity area administrator Hazel Al-Kowarri said she was "delighted".
Well Done!
