Fetternear Research Project

Fetternear Research Project

Since 1995, the Fetternear Research Project have been undertaking a landscape and garden survey, an architectural survey, excavation, documentary research, family history and the study of the rich and varied finds we have excavated.

This project forms part of the Scottish Episcopal Palaces Project, which studies medieval bishops' palaces in Scotland; Fetternear was a moated site. After the Reformation, Fetternear became the family seat of the Leslies of Balquhain and went through various transformations, becoming a towerhouse, hallhouse and latterly a mansion, which burned down in 1919.
