I am seeking information on my Gx5 Grandfather WILLIAM LAW according to Old Parish Register b.4 Jan 1690 in Kemnay son of JAMES LAW b. before 1669 in Scotland. Supposedly William emigrated to James River, Henrico County, Virginia; m. 1715 Elishaba (Elisabeth) Lawson in Bristol Parish, Henrico County, Virginia; d.1733 at Westover Plantation on James River, Virginia. I have confidence of the family line back to William's son John Law, Sr. b.29 Mar 1722 on James River, Bristol Parish, Henrico County,Virginia; m. 14 Nov 1748 to Sarah (Lazinka) Cockram-Cockerham, Franklin County, Virginia; d.18 June 1799 at Simmons Creek, Franklin County, Virginia and listed as one of that county's original settlers arriving in 1790.

My GGGmother was Sophia Morgan (chr. 21 Aug 1806, Kintore, died 9 Dec 1893 Kemnay).  Sophia had an illegitimate son, Alexander (b. 2 Feb 1844 Kemnay, d. 20 Mar 1944 Kemnay).  Alexander went on to become Inspector of Poor, Registrar, Postmaster, Clerk to School Board etc - some of which is documented elsewhere on this site under Bellaville/Park View history.

On Alexander's Kemnay OPR record for his birth/christening his father is listed as James Whyte. On his marriage to Annabella Thom 1 Jul 1870 he lists his father as James Whyte, Hotelkeeper.  On his marriage to Elizabeth Watt 22 Dec 1908 he lists his father as James Whyte, Contractor (deceased).  His death cert. lists his father as James Whyte, Hotelkeeper (deceased); informant James Strath Whyte son.

Robina came over to Boston MA, USA in 28 Apr 1923, her mother Isabella Ewen was listed as living in Kirk Villa Kemnay, Scotland. Robert Anderson Ewen died 27/12/1918 in WWI and is buried in France at ST. GERMAIN-AU-MONT-D'OR COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION. Isabella Christie Ewen remained in Kemnay, Scotland and may be buried there. 

Hi,I wondered if anyone had any information on the Middletons in and around Kemnay.

I was in Kemnay in September and met a very nice lady at the Church.I asked if it was ok to take some photos some of the graves of the Middletons.She actually took the time to introduce me to her husband who knew some of the history of the Middletons from the area. Unfortunately my trip was done in a bit of a rush and I didnt have much info with me at the time, so wasnt much help to him in trying to fathem out which of the two Middleton families i was descended from. You may know who I am talking about, but unfortunately I have forgotten their name, but he stays across the road from the garage on the main road through the town towards Inverurie.

I am tracing our family tree and have found that some of my husband's relatives came from Kemnay/Cluny/ Inverurie areas. Their surname is Bisset and I am trying to trace them back as far as I can. I know his grandparents James Forbes Bisset and his wife Isabella Christie McCombie are buried in Kemnay Cemetry, but have been unable to find burial sites for any other relatives. I would be pleased to hear from anyone else researching this family. convent girl

Hi all, My mother is now 80 years old and her fondest memories are of the days she and her sister spent in Kemnay during the war. She constantly talks about J. Minto Robertson (a headmaster) and Jean Rose (whom I believe is now Jean Lowe) and I wonder if anyone who reads this can give me any information to help build a picture for my mother. I would be very grateful if anyone has any information to help me trace my ancestors.

I am particuarly interested in my great,great grandfather Archibald Morgan b.1809 d.1899 who lived at Upper Coulie and was married firstly to Jane Reid and later to Elizabeth Low with whom he had 4 and 8 children respectively.

The last record of my family living in Kemnay was in 1901 when Archibald's grandsons, Alexander(b.1871), James(b.1879) and Patrick(b.1880) were all living at Whitestones and were working at the quarry.

Searchng for information re William Philip also known as William Philip Anderson. Son of Susan Philip also known as Susan Anderson and Susan Davidson.

Susan married Robert Anderson in 1885 in Aberdeen and resided in kemnay where they had several children.

After Robert's death she married James Davidson in Kemnay 1902

her son William Philip is my Grandfather , he changed his name to William Phillips when he immigrated to Canada.W
