August 2008

in ::

22 people attended Kemnay & District Swimming Pool Association's open meeting on 21st August 2008. Simon Copping welcomed everyone and thanked them for turning out in such wet weather.

Formal business began with approval of the minutes of the preceding Annual General Meeting, held on 10th May 2007. Simon then presented his Chairman's report. He reminded everyone that Scotland will have the 2014 Commonwealth games and that Alex Salmond has expressed his support for improved leisure facilities throughout the country in preparation for the games. This is much needed, because the Press & Journal reported in November that 2500 children were awaiting places for swimming lessons, and with the closure of the Bon-Accord Baths and the Aberdeen Ice Rink this year, the chances of a pool for Kemnay might seem to be at an all time low.

Tuesday Centre for the Over Fifties

in ::

The group meet fortnightly in the Friendship Room of the Village Hall. We have a varied programme with craft, games or gentle exercise in the morning followed by a packed lunch or, for special occasions - Christmas, Burns or St. Andrews we have a lunch brought in by outside caterers.

In the afternoons we have a variety of different speakers, demonstrations or musical entertainment, or on occasions we have a programme by the members. We are always looking for new ideas for our programmes and if you have a few hours to spare and feel you could help out we would love to hear from you.

New members are always welcome, you do not have to come for the whole time, just what suits you best. Why not come along and give it a try!

Well Done Kemnay!!

Our recent door to door survey has been a great success! We have had a fantastic response, obtaining an estimated 1000 signatures in support of a swimming pool in the area.   A big thanks to everybody for taking the time to sign our petition - it is exactly the sort of support we need!

The Kemnay Panto

in ::

The Kemnay Panto Group are a friendly bunch who meet on Wednesday and/or Friday evenings from the beginning of September up until Pantomime time, around the beginning of December.

They are always looking for interested people who can make any contribution to their annual production. Examples of things that need doing include; sewing, costumes, lights, sound, painting scenery, shifting scenery (they promise it's not a lot of scenery, it's only a wee hall!) music and onstage folks.

Willing helpers are ensured that they won't be forced onto the stage if they come under the "shrinking violet" category!
