Wildlife Explorers prepared for Birdwatch - March 2008

On 25th January, Kemnay RSPB Wildlife Explorers enjoyed an evening of activities and games centred on the annual Big Garden Birdwatch, which took place that week-end. We looked at slides showing birds likely to be seen in gardens in winter, and talked about how to tell which was which. Then, we learned how to adjust binoculars correctly, and practised using them to identify birds in small photographs at the far end of the room. There were prizes for those who got them all correct! Everyone took home a Big Garden Birdwatch 2008 leaflet, and so we were all ready to make our contributions to this important scientific study of winter birds.

By the time you read this, the Group's last meeting in the Village Hall for this winter will have taken place. (It will include a visit from local artist Jane Milloy, on 29 February).

The Group's March meeting will be held in the Bennachie Centre, near Chapel of Garioch. We will be making nest boxes ready for the nesting season, and learning about ways of attracting birds to come to our gardens. Meet at the Bennachie Centre at 7p.m. on Friday 28th March.

Please notify the Group's main leader, Jim Piggins (643859), how many children will be attending. Also let him know if any children will require transport to Bennachie. Further details of the Group and its activities can be obtained from Jim.
