Kemnay Geneaology

We regularly get emails to the site regarding Family History information, and although we always tried to pass them on to our Local history expert, we cannot promise to answer them all ;)

With the advent of the new site format ~ I will also add any questions here, so others can feel free to provide any information, via comments, that they might have.

Hope it helps!

Grays of Aberdeen-shire

Alexander Gray married Helen Cassie Dec 31, 1857 in Kemnay.  Helen Cassie appears to be from Kemnay as I think I have found her and her family in the census records. Helen died shortly after they immigrated to the United States and Alexander remarried.  Our family is descended from the second wife.

Alexander Gray was born Feb 24, 1834 in Aberdeen-shire.  He had a sister Margaret, who according to my notes was born 12 Sept 1838 in Inverurie.  I don't have any records to back up her place of birth.  Margaret immigrated to the United States about 1862.  There was also a brother John about whom I have no information.  Elizabeth Gray, a niece, lived with Alexander in Iowa.  She was born about 1857 in Scotland.

Innes is a name associated with the Gray family.  I suspect it is a maiden name.

Is there anything to be gained by a visit to Inverurie and Kemnay as far as finding records or further information?  I have searched online and cannot find a Gray family that corresponds to what I know about this one.  Any suggestions?  Would the original marriage records at Kemnay contain any more information?

Thanks!
